Everything You Need To Know About 3 Wheel Double Buggy

3 Wheel Double Buggy

The Fox 5 is an all-terrain stroller that's perfect for parents who like to go off-road. It features a fantastic suspension and huge wheels that are puncture-proof.

Our test participant Claire was amazed by the clean packaging, easy-to-open and thought it was one of the fastest and most simple pieces of baby equipment to put together. She took it out for a spin on some tough terrain and was very pleased with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies start as single pushchairs. Some models can be converted to accommodate the second seat using adapters. Certain models let you add an extra board for older kids who are ready to walk, but still require a little help.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for city streets. It's easy to maneuver and has a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins starting at birth and will accept two car seats, or a carrycot that has a seat. However, the seats have to be oriented forward and there's no room to store a bag of groceries underneath and you'll need a sidepack for this.

If you're looking to take off-road trips, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side-by- tandem with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This makes it easier to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without too much trouble. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake for security and safety.

The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats are multi-positional reclining with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun doesn't reach your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into a triple by adding UPPAbaby’s 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most sought-after available. This is due to their superb comfort. It's a true all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension that makes light work of bumpy surfaces. It offers 30 different seating configurations as well as a built-in table for older children who prefer walking, and a "cinema' mode which raises the back seats for better visibility.

Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy that is available from day one that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) Multiple configurations are possible. This is particularly useful for parents who have children in a car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie, which permits optimal lie-flat positioning. Or car seat adapters that fit a wide range of brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension on a triple buggy is vital to how it is easy for you and your baby to push. It is crucial to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump on the road. This is especially true if you are driving on rough terrain such as grass or roads that are not paved. Some models also come with locking front wheels to help with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for all-terrain riding, but they can be prone punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres in the trunk. Some models have gel-filled or foam-filled tyres that are designed to absorb bumps. They are less likely to puncture, however they could cause discomfort for your child if they decide to run.

Our award winning side-by-side duet buggy has a brilliant suspension that will get you over any terrain with ease and comfort making it the ideal buggy for city strolls. You can even upgrade the duet using our dual kit in order to carry two children all within the same footprint!

MFM reviewer Kath took the Urban Glide 2 through its paces with her newborn and 3 years old son, and found it performed admirably on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs. The 16" rear wheels, when combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it an extremely safe jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 is loaded with features, including a spacious basket with zip-top cover large cushioned seat, 50+ UV hood and game changing visibility lights that are simple to use and recharge.

Folding

A three-wheel double buggy can be folded in a neat manner to store it. There are options that fold flat, stand up (as as if they were a pushchair) and also are able to open up to reveal more umbrella-style folding, with a hand-operated break. The more wheels the buggy has, generally the easier it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is especially applicable when the wheels are larger than average. This will provide you with more stability and make it less likely that your children are likely to tip over or fall over.

A popular option is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat and it can be converted into a side-byside double buggy once your child is old enough to allow them to be seated next to each one.  More Help  is a lightweight option that is easy to push. It also comes with a bumper bar as well as a rain cover.

Another alternative is the phil&teds sport, which is future proof as it's brilliant as a single buggy from day one and then adjusts to take 2 (or even three!) within its compact footprint. It has an innovative three-wheel design that includes an sling to improve manoeuvrability and stability.

If you're looking to jog with your children this is the ideal double buggies for jogging as it has a lockable front wheel that will help you stay in control when tackling hilly or off-road tracks. It also has a generously-sized undercarriage basket, an adjustable handlebar and soft suspension for a comfy ride.

It's a light and compact model that can be folded by one hand, making it perfect for traveling. It is compatible with many infant car seats, and it has a handy undercarriage basket to store items. It's a bit on the expensive side but does have several distinctive features that make it a great option for value, such as its slick one-click fold and numerous extras including a bumper bar and raincover.

Storage

Many are awed by the capacity of storage offered by the triple wheeled double buggy. Some models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket as well as two zip pockets on the hood, where you can keep your keys and phone. It's also designed for dealing with rough terrain, so it's a great option for family walks and all-terrain strolls.

Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of room and the possibility of transporting twins or a toddler and a child. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack board'). It's the slimmest side-by-side double available and comes with some impressive technology that includes game-changing LED visibility lights on each side of the buggy frame to increase safety in low light conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a stroller that is light enough to accommodate twins from birth and is world-facing with a lie-flat position, is something different. Its clever frame expands widthways to accommodate the additional seat, yet it weighs in at around 11kg, which makes it easy to move and lift. It can also be used with an infant car seat or carrycot, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds and it will help your budget in the future as you don't need to buy a new buggy as soon as you get it.
